College Handbook - front cover

This is a one-of-a-kind journal made from a discarded copy of the "Harbrace College Handbook."  I have chosen a vintage photo to embellish the cover over pages from the original book.  Although the young man pictured is unknown to me, I'm sure he was indeed a very serious student (and will inspire writers to be one as well?)

I made the pages from lined paper taken from a notebook.

College Handbook - school quote

On several pages are out-of-context quotes that I have selected from the original book.
Writers may use the quotes as writing prompts for inspiration or reflection,

College Handbook - outside covers

I bound the pages into the book cover using a cross-variant of long and kettle stitches.  These are visible on the spine over ribbons, which serve to anchor the cover to the book block (a term which means all the pages of a book as a whole).  The book block contains seven signatures (a term for groups of pages).

I used pages from the original book also on the inside covers and to reinforce the inside of the spine.

Note, I give the page number of each quote, when available, and list the publication information on the last page of the journal.

On the last page is my unique signature medallion, which also indicates the year I made the book.
The journal has an attached beaded ribbon bookmark.
