Heads You Lose - front cover

This is a one-of-a-kind journal made from a discarded copy of the 1968 "Heads You Lose" by Jack Lancer, one of his Christopher Cool/Teen Agent series.
I have preserved the original "cool" cover of this book but included as well the replica of an Indian Head penny from a discarded piece of jewelry.
Heads You Lose - pages

I made the pages from lined paper taken from a notebook.

On several pages are out-of-context quotes that I have selected from the original book.

Writers may use the quotes as writing prompts for inspiration or reflection,

Or simply as places to begin a meandering thought journey.

Heads You Lose - outside covers

I bound the pages into the book cover using long and kettle stitches.  These are visible on the spine over ribbons, which serve to anchor the cover to the book block (a term which means all the pages of a book as a whole).  The book block contains five signatures (a term for groups of pages).

The inside front a back covers are original to the book.

Note, I give the page number of each quote, when available, and list the publication information on the last page of the journal.

On the last page is my unique signature medallion, which also indicates the year I made the book.
The journal has an attached ribbon bookmark which I have weighted with an imitation ancient Chinese coin.
