I'm Ready to Buy Back to Shop   Back to Upcycled-Book Catalog Contact Kari     Other Sales Venues   About Kari		This is a one-of-a-kind journal made from a discarded copy of volume 2 of the 1959 "Book of Popular Science" series. I embellished the original cover with cutouts of maple leaves from a copy onto cardstock of my own original watercolor painting.
Back to the Top		The pages of the journal are a white, cardstock-weight paper, which will resist bleed through from ink or marker use. I bound the pages into the book cover using a cross-variant long and kettle stitches.  These are visible on the spine over the ribbons, which serve to anchor the cover to the book block (a term which means all the pages of a book as a whole).  The book block contains six signatures (a term for groups of pages).
Back to the Top		I have hand torn each page to size it to the book cover and along the long edge using a wave-patterned ruler.   I include out-of-context quotes on some of the pages to be used as writing or art-inspiring prompts.
Back to the Top		Writers/Artists may find the spark for an idea in the quote.
Back to the Top		They may find they are inclined to agree or disagree.
Back to the Top		Or they may use the quote as the starting point for a meandering thought journey. Note: I give the page number of each quote, when available, and list the publication information on the last page of the journal.
Back to the Top		The paper for the inside front and back covers is a copy onto cardstock of my original watercolor painting, the same as used for the leaf cutouts on the outside of the covers.  This also serves to reinforce the spine of the book.
Back to the Top		On the inside back cover is my unique signature medallion, which also indicates the year I made the book.  The journal has an attached beaded ribbon bookmark.
Back to the Top		I include a paper bookmark listing the book's main features. Dimensions of the journal are approximately 9.75" x 6.5" x 1.4".
